Po' Boy Blues

When I was home de
Sunshine seemed like gold.
When I was home de
Sunshine seemed like gold.
Since I come up North de
Whole damn world's turned cold.

I was a good boy,
Never done no wrong.
Yes, I was a good boy,
Never done no wrong,
But this world is weary
An' de road is hard an' long.

I fell in love with
A gal I thought was kind.
Fell in love with
A gal I thought was kind.
She made me lose ma money
An' almost lose ma mind.

Weary, weary,
Weary early in de morn.
Weary, weary,
Early, early in de morn.
I's so weary
I wish I'd never been born.

Langston Hughes

Langston Hughes
(1902-1967) Famous Black Poet

Langston Hughes was born James Langston Hughes in Joplin, Missouri. He grew up always feeling bad, because he was separated from his mother and farther and he always felt unsecure and bad about his self. He soon wrote his first verse when he was in the 8th grade and he later went on to high school were his writing talent was recognized by his teachers and his high school students. He was introduced to two poets Carl Sandburg and Walk Whitman and they later became his influences, and all these things helped him graduate high school at Central High School in Cleveland , Ohio then go on to go to college at Columba University. It was in college were his writing ability matured and it helped him in his career as a writer , and then moved to Harlem where he was a part of the Harlem Renaissance along with other famous black poets he soon won a prize on his poem Weary Blues.

Langston Hughes even wrote a play called Mulatto which was the longest running Broadway play written by an African American. Soon he wrote poems during World War 2 for African America newspaper, and he later on wrote a Broadway musical called Street Scene. On May 22, 1967 he died right after having abdominal surgery

The reason why I chose this poem Po Blues was, because it was written by the famous black poet Langston Hughes. In this poem he talked missing his home and having personal problems and I most thought about myself when I was reading the poem. When he talked about sunny days and having a good time when he was home , I soon thought about the days when I was living in New Orleans before hurricane Katrina and all the fun and exciting times I had. He then talked about going north and the world turned cold, and I could relate to what he was talking about because when I was going to other places after Hurricane Katrina & Rita times became hard for almost everybody I know.

From my point of view I think this poem is about a person who is talking all of things they remember from the past and now he stills thinks about it

Christina Rossetti

My heart is like a singing bird
Whose nest is in a water'd shoot;
My heart is like an apple-tree
Whose boughs are bent with thick-set fruit;
My heart is like a rainbow shell
That paddles in a halcyon sea;
My heart is gladder than all these,
Because my love is come to me.

Raise me a daïs of silk and down;
Hang it with vair and purple dyes;
Carve it in doves and pomegranates,
And peacocks with a hundred eyes;
Work it in gold and silver grapes,
In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys;
Because the birthday of my life
Is come, my love is come to me.

A Dream Within A Dream by Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!

And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream

Seeing the world with a clear view and open mind
Reminiscing on the past it might make want to go back in time
It’s got me feeling like a world champion in his prime
1,000 ideas just moving around
I have a vision that’s full of beauty
No worries just relaxation
My mind is like a free bird that has just escaped

Long, beautiful
Sharing, caring, loving
Family, dates, weddings, gifts
Wiling, wanting, choosing
Cheerful, Meaningful

The Concrete Jungle

Right now we live in jungle made of pavement
People are running wild like animals and the streets is segregated
Its survival of the fittest and every man for his self
Best advice is the trust yourself and nobody else
In this jungle there’s criminals committing crimes
People acting like wild monkeys and untamed lions
New born adapt to this hard life
The choices they make are not always right
Things always appear calm in the day and change at night
When living a life the concrete jungle

Things change

It seems like over night things can change
Since time has changed people are not the same
I remember when everyday was a good day
Now it seems that in these days I’m always in heartache
Sometimes I don’t know whether to laugh or cry
Just wishing that these bad days can past me by
I can wish and pray
But it seems like it’s the same thing everyday
In these times enemies can be friends and friends can be enenmies

No one can be trusted and you can't depend on people

Because Life is a long movie and it comes back with a bad sequel.
